Come together to experience a prayerful Lenten conversion, walking the Way of the Cross through the eyes of the Mother of Jesus.  Time for personal and communal reflection.

April 17 - 19, 2009: Women Writers’ Retreat “Words on a Page: Sight, Sound and the Creative Spark”

This weekend is a time apart for already published writers to reflect with one another and develop their own creativity with further writing in either prose or poetry.

Presenter:   Deborah Humphreys, SC
Poet and interdisciplinary artist who has facilitated poetry workshops for women since 1994; listed in Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers since 2000; published a collection of narrative poems entitled, “Conventional Wisdom.”

God’s unconditional fidelity gifts me with the fullness of divine life in Jesus.  How might I better respond in awareness and freedom to this empowerment by the Lord, in the reality of my own situation?

A spiritual and retreat director for the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.  Trained in advanced spiritual direction at Jesuit Loyola House, Guelph, Ontario; currently serving on the pastoral council of St. Francis Xavier  Church in Manhattan,  also works as a free-lance writer.  She is married to Gary Gatza and has two children and six grandchildren.

Experienced spiritual director, pastoral counselor, retreat director, pastor, theology teacher, with M.Div. from the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, CA.  Currently Director of Campus Ministry at Lemoyne College in Syracuse, NY.

At this time, how can we live the charism of charity so as to bring about healing and hope for ourselves and others?  The conferences and teaching of St. Vincent de Paul will be foundational to the reflections and prayer.

The charity of Christ urges us on!  Where will it bring us today and what do we need to get there?  This retreat will tap into the urges within our hearts as the place where the God who is Love lives.

Dean of the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Studies at Fordham University; former professor, chaplain and founding Director of the Center for Theology and Spiritual Development at the College of St. Elizabeth, and Associate member of the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth.

A Religious of the Cenacle, Sr. Helen has training in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, pastoral counseling and spiritual direction.  She is also an experienced Reiki Practitioner and Biospiritual Focusing Trainer and Facilitator.

NOTE:  Staff from the Island Wellness Center will be available during the weeks of retreat for massage, reiki, foot reflexology for a fee of $30.  Sign up sheets will be provided to schedule appointments.
